Introduction
|
|
| |
This learning
activity is all about having fun with friends
and also learning how food and physical activity
are an important part of celebrations.
As a class students will decide on something
to celebrate and organise the function – perhaps
it could be a fundraiser with the money going
to a good cause or organise the end of term
or year celebrations.

Background
|
|
| |
During the task
make sure groups spend time sharing and reflecting
on what some of the great things are that
they enjoy at celebrations, for example dancing,
meeting new people, having fun and being
active, so these can be incorporated in to
the celebration. |

|
| |
Learning Task
|
|
| |
 |
 |
Discuss with students
the different celebrations that they
enjoy with their friends. Include in
this discussion the role of food and
physical activity at the different celebrations
students brainstormed
| • |
Is the type of food
that is eaten at the celebration
what they would eat everyday? |
| • |
Or is it something they would
have in moderation or only occasionally? |
|
| |
 |
Discuss as a class how food and activity
is used to help celebrate events. For
example at a birthday party, sports celebration
or Christmas |
| |
 |
Students will need to design and set
up a celebration event. They need to
consider where, when and why they will
be having this celebration |
| |
 |
Students will need to plan the food
for the celebration and physical activity
that they would enjoy with friends |
| |
 |
Students should reflect on what foods
and drinks they chose for the party and
also what physical activity they select.
Would they suit the category Fun and
Friends? |

Teacher Notes

A dance you might
want to try with the class for consideration
for the party is the:
Hip Hop Progressive Jive. It’s great
fun with friends! Choose some cool music
with a good rock beat.
Here is an example of a great old dance with
a modern twist!
