Task | Recall and Record | Reflection

Task

The Daily Diary will help you think about and record what you currently eat/drink for breakfast and how active you are through the day. You will need to set some time aside at home each day for a week, from Monday to Sunday, to recall and record all the food and drink you have had to eat in the morning. You will also be recording the physical activity you did that particular day for a week.

You could do this as a homework exercise or first thing each day when you get to school.

Reflection

Your teacher will organise for you to reflect in small groups on the data you have collected. Use the following questions as prompts to help the discussion.

What are the different types of breakfasts that we eat?
  What makes a nutritious breakfast?
Does your breakfast have food or drink from two or more of the food groups?
Do you think you should change the type of breakfast that you eat? Why?
Did you skip breakfast at all? Why/Why not?
How do you feel if you miss breakfast in the morning?
Can you suggest ways to break the barriers to skipping breakfast?
Did you do some physical activity everyday?
If so, what type of physical activity did you do?
Why did you choose that particular activity?
Can you think of ways to be more active each day?

You should also reflect on how nutritious your morning meals were. First what makes a nutritious breakfast? Are the foods and drink you have at breakfast nutritious? Also reflect on the type of activity you did and how active you were over the week. Visit the following sites to help with your decision.
