Introduction
Your school wants your class to
make recommendations for the next sports
carnival. The main aim is for more students
to participate, and to take on roles and
responsibilities to make the occasional
event a fun one.
Are you up for the job?
The school is also keen for you to highlight
the importance of having an active and
healthy lifestyle and the importance
of safety.

Recommendations
Think about some activities you
like to do – or want to try at the
next sports carnival? Also think about
some of the
occasional foods that could be available
at the sports carnival and make sure that
you include everyday foods, which provide
energy. Your whole class has been asked
to make the occasional carnival recommendations,
not just you. You will need to share your
thoughts and then collate the best recommendations.
Make a list of your own ideas, then share with
the class.
Step 1 – Trace around your hand on a
blank piece of paper. Step 2 – On each of the fingers put
your recommendations that you would like
to see happen at the next sports carnival.
Include both foods and activities. In the
large part of the hand put the reasons why
you would like to see these recommendations. Step 3 - Share these recommendations with
others in the class. Pin up your drawing
of your hand on a wall or board as shown
by your teacher. Read everyone’s recommendations
and, using a pen, put a tick if you like
the recommendation. Step 4 - Collate the data and put the most popular recommendations up on the
board. Make sure the physical activities are safe and remember to have a
balance of everyday and occasional foods. You could create a poster and show these
as a list. Use the computer to make it look
neat and attractive.

Presentation
You have your class recommendations
for the next sports carnival, however,
the
school also wanted you to make the occasional
event a fun one.
With two other people, (your teacher will help form this group) work together
to develop and present to the class your tips to make the occasional carnival
a fun one. Also remember to include your class recommendations in this presentation.
It is important when you are physically
active that you warm up. Firstly make a
list of safe warm ups that move the whole
body. Include in your presentation one
(1) special warm up that all students could
do on the day of the carnival. Carnival ideas
Try the wheel relay. It’s a fun,
activity that you could include as part
of a sporting day or athletics carnival.
It will get everyone involved. Your teacher
will give you instructions about this activity. For great ideas on how to make your athletics
carnival, fun and involve small and large
groups, check out:

You can present your findings in a variety
of ways. The presentation should be short,
interesting and useful to others who might
be asked to do the same
task sometime. You can make use of any of the following:

 |
Slideshow eg PowerPoint |
| |
 |
Report or oral presentation |
| |
 |
Inspiration® or similar concept mapping

| |
 |
Poem |
| |
 |
Letter |
| |
 |
Poster |
| |
 |
Oral speech / talk |
| |
 |
Make a video |
| |
 |
Make a radio segment |
Well done on developing a range of ideas for the school to take up for the
next sports carnival.
They all sound like fun. |
